TRANSFER | Prestige Sports speler Sjeffie Verhagen vindt nieuwe club in Fortuna Sittard.

De nog 19-jarige Tilburgse aanvallend ingestelde rechtsback die ook goed als middenvelder uit de voeten kan, maakt deze stap nadat hij een succesvolle stageperiode aflegde in Sittard.

Sjeffie stroomde deze zomer, met nog heel wat andere medespelers, uit bij de jeugdopleiding van Willem II en kwam dus tijdelijk zonder club te zitten.

Zo sloot hij aan bij de trainingen en wedstrijden van de Prestige Elite Teams wachtende op een kans. Na het voorstellen van het talent aan Fortuna pakte de club uit Sittard door en liet de Nederlandse rechtsback met Roemeense roots meteen op stage komen.
“Ik merkte meteen aan de club Fortuna dat zij met de opleiding van de club in groei zijn. Ze willen met de jeugdteams van de academie naar een hoger niveau en selecteren kritisch.

Ze hebben duidelijke plannen en een goede visie. Proberen echt een omgeving te creëren waarin ik me als speler wel zie door ontwikkelen. Deze club past bij mij. Mijn ambitie is om hier via de beloften in het eerste te komen. Er heerst hier een hele familiare sfeer en de trainers zijn intensief met je bezig maar ook echt op persoonlijk niveau helpen ze mij. Dat vind ik persoonlijk heel belangrijk. Niet dat dat bij Willem ll niet het geval was, daar heb ik als Tilburgse jongen ook heel veel geleerd. Uiteindelijk toont Fortuna nu heel veel vertrouwen en ben ik dus blij met deze stap.” Aldus Sjeffie zelf.

Als 15-jarige speler werd Verhagen opgepikt door Willem II terwijl hij toen ook naar Fortuna Sittard kon. Nu hij wat ouder is, is Fortuna de juiste club op het juiste moment in zijn spelers loopbaan. Sjeffie verhuist naar Sittard en gaat vol voor zijn kansen hier bij deze karakteristieke Eredivisie club. De afgelopen wedstrijden met het U23 Elite Team bevestigde toch wel weer dat Sjeffie echt wel een jongen is met kwaliteiten en potentie.

Afgelopen donderdag werd Sjeffie Verhagen officieel gepresenteerd in het Fortuna Sittard Stadion als nieuwe versterking van de geel groenen.

The still 19-year-old Tilburg attacking right full- back who also plays well as a midfielder, makes this step after he completed a successful internship in Sittard.

Verhagen got released this summer with many other fellow players from Willem II’s youth academy and was therefore temporarily without a club.

He joined the training and games of the Prestige Elite Teams waiting for opportunities. After introducing the talent to Fortuna, the club from Sittard proceeded and immediately let the Dutch right back with Romanian roots come on trial.
“I immediately noticed at Fortuna that they are growing as an organization. They want to go to a higher level with their youth teams and selecting critically.

They have clear plans and a good vision. And trying really well to create a perfect environment in which I can see myself developing as a player. This club suits me.
My ambition is to get here through the reserves in the first squad. There is a very much family atmosphere here at the club and the trainers are intensively involved with the players. They also really help me on a personal level.
I personally find that very attractieve.
Not that that was not the case with Willem II, as a local from Tilburg I also learned a lot over there. Ultimately, Fortuna Sittard now shows a lot of confidence and I am happy with signing for them.” According to Sjeffie himself.

As a 15-year-old player, Verhagen was picked up by Willem II at that time he also was able to go to Fortuna Sittard so it seems you can’t escape from what appears to be destined. Now that he is a bit older, Fortuna is the right club at the right time for him in his career. Sjeffie is moving to Sittard and is fully going for his chances at this characteristic Dutch premier league side. The past matches with the U23 Elite team again confirmed that Sjeffie really is a player with lot’s of qualities and potential.

Last Thursday, Sjeffie Verhagen was officially presented in the Fortuna Sittard Stadium as a new reinforcement of the yellow greens.
